We constantly consider measures to comply with legal requirements in the field of environmental protection and to ensure sustainable production throughout the integrated production chain. We respect and fulfill the provisions of the integrated environmental authorizations we hold.
Carbon footprint
As part of our commitment to sustainable and transparent development, starting in 2024, TRANSAVIA annually assesses its total carbon footprint based on the GHG Protocol. The analysis covers the company's entire value chain, from grain cultivation and feed production to poultry farming, meat processing, and product distribution.
Our vertically integrated business model with our own facilities ensures better control over processes and the ability to identify and implement concrete measures to reduce emissions. Constant investments in energy efficiency, modern production technologies, and renewable energy projects contribute to optimizing environmental performance and reducing the climate impact of our activities.
Energy efficiency and decarbonization
Reducing environmental impact starts with how we produce and use energy, which is why we constantly invest in solutions that increase energy efficiency and accelerate the transition to renewable sources. TRANSAVIA has implemented the largest green energy project in the Romanian food industry thanks to a massive investment of approximately 35 million euros from its own funds, having photovoltaic panels installed at all our work locations.
At the same time, we are permanently optimizing energy consumption through energy-efficient buildings, modern ventilation and heating systems, low-consumption lighting, and high-performance equipment tailored to the requirements of each activity. At the same time, we continuously streamline product transport and distribution by optimizing delivery routes, contributing to the reduction of fuel consumption, kilometers traveled, and associated emissions.
Responsible water management
Water is an essential resource for our business, and its responsible use is a priority in all TRANSAVIA operations. Through constant investments in modern technologies and continuous monitoring, we optimize consumption and prevent losses across the entire production chain.
We use water-saving equipment and recovery systems, low-flow high-pressure pumps, as well as sensor-activated faucets in administrative areas. In all units, we monitor water consumption monthly to quickly identify potential leaks and intervene promptly.
On farms, computerized systems constantly monitor water consumption and signal any deviation from normal values, facilitating the rapid identification of leaks or other malfunctions. At the same time, all barns are equipped with nipple-watering systems designed to reduce water waste and keep the litter dry, thereby contributing to the welfare of the birds and the reduction of ammonia emissions and other gases generated in the shelters.
Protecting biodiversity
Protecting biodiversity begins with how we manage agricultural land and natural resources. On the approximately 10,000 hectares cultivated by TRANSAVIA, we apply responsible agricultural practices aimed at maintaining ecosystem balance and preserving soil fertility. We carefully select the cultivated varieties according to the nutritional needs of the birds and constantly monitor the crops to intervene responsibly, using plant protection products in compliance with legislation and with care to protect pollinators. We actively collaborate with local beekeepers and inform the authorities before applying treatments, contributing to the protection of bees and the support of natural pollination.
To maintain soil health and long-term fertility, we use organic fertilizers resulting from the responsible valorization of our own resources: compost obtained from barn manure and protein meal produced in our own animal byproduct processing facility. Through their superior content of humic acid, nitrogen, and amino acids, they contribute to the natural regeneration of the soil and the maintenance of its fertility, while also supporting a circular economy model. Fertilization is complemented, only when necessary, with synthetic products used responsibly and in accordance with legislation and best agricultural practices.
Through these practices, we reduce resource consumption, support soil health, and promote a responsible agricultural model in harmony with the environment and local biodiversity.
