TRANSAVIA invests 150 million euros in the largest pet food factory in Romania
TRANSAVIA, the leader of the poultry meat market in Romania and one of the most important 100% Romanian family businesses, enters the pet food market. The company invests 150 million euros, entirely from its own resources, in a new factory in Ciugud, Alba County, near the A10 Sebeș–Turda highway. With a built area of 65,000 m², the unit will be the largest of its kind in Romania and one of the most modern in Europe. The factory will produce dry and wet food for over 11 million dogs and cats annually, and maximum capacity production is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
The new division complements the integrated „from pig to fork” model, now extended „to bowl”. The factory will valorize chicken parts that are not intended for human consumption, but are perfectly suitable and nutritious for animals, along with cereals grown on the company’s approximately 10,000 hectares. The unit will be fully automated and robotized and will have 12 MWp photovoltaic panels, its own wastewater treatment station and an internal production line for metal canned foods. The investment comes at an important time for the market: in 2024, the Romanian petfood market exceeded 1 billion euros, but less than 3% of the products sold in the modern trade are manufactured locally. TRANSAVIA aims to reach the top 10 global producers of pet food and to increase its EBITDA from over 100 million to approximately 250 million euros in 2–3 years.
