What is a CV?
CV comes from Curriculum Vitae, but the title shouldn't scare you. It is simply a short document through which you introduce yourself to an employer: who are you, what school did you go to, what can you do and where have you worked, if you have worked before, because the employer reads the CV to find out a few important things about you before calling you for an interview.
If this is your first job and you have never made a CV before, it is normal not to have very many things to put in it. Do not try to fill it with information just to make it look longer! Write simply and truthfully what you have done so far: the school you graduated from, what you learned to do, the internship, the courses or activities you participated in.
A good CV doesn't have to have complicated words, but it must be clear, correct, and easy to read.
Here is what it contains and how to fill it out.
What a CV should contain
Your data
At the beginning, you write the basic information so that the employer knows who you are and how to contact you:
- first and last name;
- the locality where you live;
- phone number;
- email address, if you have one.
Verify the phone number before sending your CV. If you made a mistake in a digit, the employer won't be able to contact you.
2. You can then add a sentence about the job you are looking for.
Example:
- If you recently finished school: „I am a vocational school graduate and I am looking for a job where I can use what I have learned and gain experience.”
- If you do not have a qualification: „I want a stable job as a production worker. I am available to work in shifts and to learn.”
- If you recently graduated from college: „I am a graduate of the Faculty of …, specialization …, and I want to start my career in the field of …”
3. What is your education (what school did you attend)?
Not all jobs require high school or college, so write down the education you have completed. in reality.
It is important to list your completed courses, starting with the last school you graduated from: university (include the period you were a student), high school, vocational school, or middle school. You also write the year you graduated and the trade or specialization you trained for (for example: mechanic, electrician).
Very importantcome here and other qualifications or diplomas, such as qualification courses, certificates, or authorizations. And don't forget about driver's license — write what categories you have (B, C, E etc.). For many jobs, the driver's license makes a difference.
Example:
- If you graduated from middle school, you can write: Gymnasium School …, graduated in 2024
- If you graduated from a vocational school, it is important to also write down the profession for which you trained: Vocational School …, 2023 – qualification: auto mechanic
- If you did school internship, mention this as well. It is especially important if you are looking for your first job.
- If you graduated high school, write the high school, profile, and graduation year: High School ..., technological profile, graduated in 2025
- If you graduated from a university, write the faculty and specialization: University of ..., Faculty of ..., specialization ..., graduated in 2026
- If you have qualification courses, certificates, or authorizations, list them separately. For example: forklift operator, electrician, welder, equipment operator, hygiene course, etc.
- If you have a driver's license, also write the category: B, C, CE etc.
4. What is your work experience (where have you worked before)
This is the part that interests the employer the most. You make a list of the places where you have worked so far and for each job you write 4 things:
- company name where did you work;
- what was your position (for example: mason, saleswoman, driver, unskilled worker);
- How long did you work there (for example: 2 years, 6 months);
- what were you actually doing.
If you have had previous employment, start with last job that you had, then continue, in order, with the others, from the most recent to the oldest.
Example:
- Factory X – Production Worker – 2023–2025: We were packing the products, preparing the goods, and keeping the workplace clean.
- Company X – construction worker – 1 year: We help with the preparation of materials, loading and unloading them, and cleaning the work area.
If you have never had a job before
It is not a problem and you do not need to invent experience. Especially if you just finished school, the employer expects that it's possible you haven't worked yet. Instead, say what practical experience you have.
Example:
- If you graduated from a vocational school, you can pass the internship: Professional internship – Auto Service X – 3 months. I helped with maintenance operations and learned how to use basic tools and equipment.
- If you graduated from a university, you can mention an internship, mandatory practice, volunteering, or an important project: Internship – Company X – July–August 2025. I supported the team in …
- If you don't have a qualification, but you have worked around the household or occasionally, and this experience may be relevant: Activities in the family household: I cared for animals, worked in the fields, loaded and transported materials, and used agricultural tools.
- If you have never worked with an employment contract, do not leave the field blank. You can also include work done without a contract, around the household, in the fields, doing day labor in construction, or help given in the family business. Any experience matters and shows that you know how to work.
The important idea for someone just starting out is: „I haven't been hired yet” doesn't mean „I don't know how to do anything.”. In your CV, you need to show the employer what you have learned so far, what you have done in practice, and what you can do at your future job.
5. Date and signature
At the end you put the date when you completed your CV and you sign. Simple.
A few tips before you hand it over
- Write clearly. If you fill it out by hand, write clearly, in easy-to-read letters.
- Tell the truth. Do not invent schools or jobs: employers check and lies are quickly discovered.
- Check it again. Uită-te dacă numărul de telefon e corect și dacă nu ai lăsat rubrici goale din greșeală.
- Păstrează o copie. Îți va folosi data viitoare când aplici în alt loc.
Un CV bun nu înseamnă multe pagini, ci informații corecte, scrise clar. Cu o foaie completată îngrijit, ai făcut deja primul pas spre noul loc de muncă.
